Miscellaneous photographs and one album relating to the allied Green and Guerrant families. Of interest is an album of photographs taken in 1902-1903 which pictures people, events, and locations in Ky., Tenn., and N.C., and portrays the work of the "Soul Winners." Many of the photographs were taken during a visit by Major General Oliver Otis Howard who was sent by the Christian Herald to report on the work of the society in the mountains. Howard was accompanied by Doctor Guerrant, Anne Guerrant, Reverend Harvey S. Murdoch of Buckhorn, Ky., and a photographer, George Stark, from the Christian Herald. Identified persons include Oliver Otis Howard, Edward O. Guerrant, Anne Guerrant, Reverend Miles Saunders, Louise Saunders, and Harvey S. Murdoch.

Oliver Howard was born in Leeds, Maine, the son of Rowland Bailey Howard and Eliza Otis Howard. Rowland, a farmer, died when Oliver was 9 years old. Oliver attended Monmouth Academy in Monmouth, North Yarmouth Academy in Yarmouth, Kents Hill School in Readfield, and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1850 at the age of 19.
